Who doesn’t love a good sustainable DIY project!? I know I do. Every day in High school I used to bring a plastic bottle to school and reuse it until I got home and put it in our recycling bin. What if I told you that instead of throwing your empty plastic bottles, old beer bottles or wine bottles in the recycling bin you can use them as your very own planter! Just the other day I went over to a friend’s house and saw that she had a whole garden in her dorm made from recycled bottles. Its super chic and easy to do.
All you need is a plastic bottle, determine if you want the planter to grow plants standing up, horizontal, hanging or free standing. Cut the bottle to fill with soil, add water and begin planting seeds for your own home garden.
Many plants can be grown, such as herbs, cacti and flowers. Not only will the garden be stimulating to look at and taste good, but you may also breath better by the fresh oxygen and aromas your plants emit. By reusing plastic bottles, you are eliminating waste and positively adding to our environment. Let’s get sustainable one DIY project at a time!
