Are you interested in saving the environment? Are you interested in recycling? Are you a fashionista? If you said yes to any of these questions, then re-purposing recycled materials is the way to go. Just recently in the past 10 years or so, the idea of recycling for the purpose of fashion has blown up. At craft shows, one can see purses made out of coke cans, gum wrappers, and much more. Decorative rugs are made from recycled plastic bags. Instead of just throwing away plastic bottles, bags, cans and wrappers, resourceful artist are recycling and turning them into fashionable accessories.
With a little time and effort, you too can create beautiful home decor and fashion accessories. Cuban artists collect tin can tab’s from soft drink and beer cans, to crochet them into beautiful purses. They cut the rest of metal from the cans to sculpt children’s toys, such as cars and cameras. In Indiana, a group of women crochet sleeping mats for the homeless, using plastic bags. Artists reuse the wood from construction palates to create new furniture and picture frames. In Africa, stylish, colorful necklaces are made out of recycled paper and gum wrappers. One just has to use their imagination to re purpose used material to create original and vibrant items.
